“This dashboard widget queries Google Blog Search so that when another blog links to your site it will show up here. It has found no incoming links… yet. It’s okay — there is no rush.”

Fed up of seeing that when you know there are blogs linking to your wordpress content?

Why does the incoming links widget not work?

The problem arrises because your URL is not encoded see URL encoding

Solution

Encoding your URL changes the “://” to “%3A%2F%2F”

: becomes %3A
/ becomes %2F

Now the full URL will look something like mine but of course you don’t have to use google for your feed source
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch_feeds?scoring=d&ie=utf-8&num=10&output=rss&partner=wordpress&q=link:http%3A%2F%2Fianjgough.com

But whats all the variables and can i change any?

  • scoring=d –> score results by date, remove scoring=d for score by relevance
  • ie=utf-8 –> encoding of the input
  • num=10 –> number of links to display
  • output=rss –> rss or atom
  • partner=wordpress –>
  • q=link –> query
