fn fix Warning: Missing required field name (fn)

Experiencing Warning: Missing required field “name (fn)”. error whilst trying to link your google plus profile to your website?

How to fix it and what it means.

Warning: Missing required field name (fn). Means that inside your vcard you don’t have a fn class with your name in it.

<span class="fn">Your Name</span>

This is what mine now looks like

<div class="vcard">
<?php echo get_avatar(get_the_author_ID(), 80) ?>
<span class="fn">Ian.J.Gough</span>
</div>

There are a lot of options that can be included in your vcard and a Generator is available to make it easier

I had to edit loop-single.php page in my themes folder (wp-content/themes/Paradise/loop-single.php)

hCard is a microformat that allows a vCard to be embedded inside an HTML page. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VCard)

    Thank you for the explanation, but please advise me where I should put the vcard in my template. Can it be put in the index.php?

      Hey, It will have to go in the loop somewhere probably either loop-single.php (Like mine) or single.php depending on how your theme is named. (wp-content/themes/your-theme/loop-single.php) Hope this helps, All the best, Ian

    Hello, Ian. Thanks very much for the article. I do have a question about the microformats markup for gravatars in the comments section for news article. I am receiving a few errors for them:

    “Warning: This information will not appear as a rich snippet in search results results, because it seems to describe an organization. Google does not currently display organization information in rich snippets”

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Hey there and thank you for your question.
      OK to solve your issue you need to edit your themes comments page for me this was (wp-content/themes/Paradise/functions/comments.php).
      <div class="comment-author"> becomes <div class="comment-author vcard"> and
      <span class="comment_author"> becomes <span class="comment_author fn">
      All the best, Ian

      Hey and thanks for your question,
      OK to solve your issue simply remove this line <span class="author vcard"> <a style="display: none;" rel="author" target="_blank" href="http://www.monkshouts.org/about/ " class=”url fn author"></a></span> as it appears twice on your page the other being valid containing author name.
      All the best,
      Ian

    Hi Ian, great blog man. I’m having trouble similar to Vive but I don’t see where it is being requested twice. What do you think? Having same error on 33 pages, here’s one example:

    http://www.purchaseflorida.com/florida-mortgage-rates-rise/

    Thanks bud, I really appreciate your input.

      Hey,
      I’m only seeing 1 error on the schema markup -> Error: Missing required field “name (fn)”. <- Which is just because you are missing the class fn on your name. Please let me know a couple of the other pages where your experiencing these issues. As i don’t see anything being requested twice using Google’s rich snippets tool.
      All the best,
      Ian
